DATE: Saturday May 25th
TIME: 11.45am – 4pm

On SATURDAY MAY 25th WHAC holds our annual Vosseler Shield. We are once again on the lookout for marvellous marshals to help the day run smoothly. If you are able to assist, please email Georgina georgina@andersondesign.co.nz & she can assign you a special spot where you get to watch the racing up close & personal, cheer & encourage runners, a full day of magnificent cross country racing & you can contribute to the running of this really special event. Marshals are required from 11.30am – 4pm approx.

A MASSIVE shout out to all those who have put their hands up to marshal this year. The race can’t go ahead without your contribution.

We are still looking for another 10 amazing people to have a full complement of marshals for 2024.

Please let me know your availability ASAP.

FYI – If anyone has any youth participating in either their SILVER or GOLD (sorry not BRONZE as they are too young) Duke of Edinburgh Awards & they help with marshalling for the full day, I would be happy to list this as a community service piece for them.

Thanks, Georgina

(sponsored by Clendon Architects, allegedly)

My family and I are on holiday in Europe, and the first stop was to visit friends and family in London. On a cool spring morning last Saturday, we headed to the massive Richmond Park for our first ever Park Run. It was an amazing turnout, with well over 450 people turning up to run. This is pretty normal apparently. Dot, Sam, Toby and I were all running. Lucy was supporting as she was recovering from a cold. I had my training sneakers on and had the same cold, so wasn’t sure how I would go.
We took off and headed up a gentle rise on mostly asphalt for a kilometre, then headed down a gentle slope for a kilometre before running the rest of the way on gravel paths among the trees. The course was one huge 5k loop, easily accommodated within the enormous park grounds.
I was back in 7th place for the first half, but found my running legs and started to run people down, finishing in third after almost catching the leaders in the last uphill to the finish.
Toby came flying in, first in his age group and Sam wasn’t far behind. Dot enjoyed her run, and spent the last part of it running with and chatting to a 78 year old organiser, who regaled her with the history of the event.
All in all it was a lovely morning out, finished off with a coffee at the park with one of the friendly organisers. I would highly recommend it.
We are in France currently, heading to Geneva next.

Poppy Healy has been in Adelaide this past week, as part of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Track & Field team, competing at the Australian Athletics Championships. She finished 5th in the final of the Women’s U18 800m in a PB of 2:10.27, after qualifying second in her heat. In the Women’s U18 400m she missed qualification by one spot and a very small margin but also posted a PB of 57.62.
Poppy is also part of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country team, where she has been selected as one of six individual girls, to race at the 2024 ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships in Kenya on 12 May.

Maria Revelant and Giselle Kenworthy are part of the Wellington Girls College team, who have been selected as the New Zealand Secondary Schools Girls representative team to compete at the event as well. The full team leaves on 30 April to travel via South Africa for an altitude training camp before heading to Kenya for the event.

Good luck and go well to these three girls!!
