First Up

Hi there, we are trying a new platform this week for the newsletter so apologies in advance for any teething problems. It’s called mailchimp, and the hope is that we can get photos and images back into the mix. There are some costs involved if we send out too many emails each month, so we need to keep an eye on that and make sure it’s all going to work out.
The New Zealand Track & Field Champs started today at Newtown Park and will continue over the weekend. This evening’s feature 5000m races were won by Julian Oakley (13:52) and Laura Nagel (16:40). Great to see WHAC’s Nathan Tse finish eighth (14:50) and Liam Chesney 12th (15:17).
You can look at the full results from the champs here
A reminder that because of the champs, this Saturday’s 8:30 a.m. track session will be held at Freyberg Pool rather than Newtown Park.
Hopefully the mailchimp platform will enable us to share an image which didn’t work in last week’s newsletter — a flyer for a pop-up shop selling running T-shirts during the champs.
We should soon have the full calendar of upcoming club races and events for this year.

For future newsletter items or suggestions, please email Nick Perry: nickgbperry@gmail.com

Tom Walsh should notch up his 14th straight New Zealand shot put title at Newtown Park Wellington on Saturday.

Walsh currently has 14 national titles to his credit having won the discus throw in 2013. In the lower grades Walsh won the national U18 shot and discus titles in 2009 and his father, Peter, won the 1965 national junior shot put title.

Walsh will be up against a formidable opponent in Jacko Gill. The former World U20 and U18 champion, who has won the silver in the senior shot on five occasions.
